ANU MALIK
The most prolific composer of today's times,
Anu Malik has come a long way from
composing for inconsequential movies to
composing for the biggest banners. Anu Malik
is the son of the well known music director late
Sardar Malik.
Anu Malik came into limelight with the films Poonam starring
Poonam Dhillon with song 'Mohabbat Rang Layegi.. Ahista' and
Ek Jaan Hain Hum starring Rajiv Kapoor and Divya Rana. The
movie's songs such as 'Dil Dil Hai Koi Shesha Toh Nahin' 'Bolo
Kuch Toh Bolo' he later on was assigned by Manmohan Desai for
his films such as Mard and Ganga Jamuna Saraswati. As the
music scenario shifted focus from romance to action Anu Malik
found it tough keep himself afloat with intermittent successes like
Sohni Mahivaal and Ek Chaddar Maili Si, nevertheless he
survived.
His transition period began after, Govinda's brother, Kirti Kumar
signed him for their home production Radha Ka Sangam. Anu
went on to compose his best songs ever 'Do Bol Kehke', 'Radha
Ka Sangam' and 'Bichuvaa'. Anu Malik got another golden
opportunity to compose for Mahesh Bhatt, who had revived the
sagging careers of the music duo Nadeem-Shravan. Now it was
Anu's turn who in return gave Mahesh Bhatt exceptional numbers
for his tele-film Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee 'Tere Dar Par
Sanam', 'Badalon Mein Chhup' and 'Dil Deta Hai'. The songs got
Anu Malik immense critical acclaim.
He tasted success with the film Baazigar Ye Kaali Kaali Ankhen
this movie catapulted Anu Malik in the big league. Other films like
Sir, Jaanam, Chamatkar and Imtihan. In the midst he came out
with a private album in English Eyes. Anu developed a liking
towards giving playback in films. Anu Malik also got the
opportunity to work Mansoor Khan and delivered a commendable
score for the film Akele Hum Akele Tum Dil Mera Churayan, many
other films of his were commercial successes such as Main Anari
Tu Khiladi, Ram Jaane, Naajayaz and Vijaypath.
Unfortunately Anu Malik was the butt of tasteless pot shots due
to his tune lifting tactics which he claimed doing it under pressure
from the producers.
Anu silenced his critics with Border the songs like 'Sandesein
Aate Hain' and 'Aye Jaate Hue Lamho' proved to be major crowd
puller, followed by Viraasat these movies boosted Anu's morale
and he was repeated by Mansoor Khan and J.P. Dutta for their
future projects Josh Apun Bola and Refugee Aaisa Lagtaa Hai
respectively. Anu Malik has also been signed by Subhash Ghai
for his film Yaadein. Currently Josh, Hum To Mohabbat Karega
and Refugee are at the top of the charts consolidating the never
say die music director Anu Malik.
